Szymon and Alicja’s wedding in Bydgoszcz: from hotel preparations to a late-night party
Szymon and Alicja began looking for a wedding photographer in Bydgoszcz well before their celebration. On 22 February 2026, they contacted Alena, whom they had found in a directory of wedding photographers. Their wedding was scheduled for 3 October. There were more than seven months between that first enquiry and the shoot — enough time to discuss both the date and the parts of the day they wanted to preserve in photographs.
At first, Szymon and Alicja booked fewer hours of photography, without the preparations. Later, following advice from friends, they added time to cover that part of the day. As a result, the story in this album begins in the bride’s room: a dress by the window, a friend helping her get ready and the final details before meeting the groom. It then takes in the family blessing, the church ceremony and a celebration that continued well after midnight.
The gallery currently contains a selection of photographs from the day. More images will be added later.
From the first enquiry to the drive from Warsaw
Szymon and Alicja’s enquiry became Alena’s first booking to photograph an entire wedding day. She had already taken on shorter wedding assignments. This time, there would be many more events to capture, from the preparations to the late-night party. The booking began in February and, in October, became a full day of photography in another city.
The team travelled to the wedding by car from Warsaw. They left at 8:30 in the morning, with photography scheduled to begin at 13:30. The journey went smoothly: the team arrived early and waited for the day’s work to begin.
For a couple choosing a photographer for a wedding in Bydgoszcz, a journey like this is a reason to discuss logistics in advance. It helps to agree on where coverage begins, when the photographer needs to arrive and which journeys are planned during the day. In this story, the first location was the hotel where the bride was getting ready.
Bridal preparations: the part of the day they decided to keep
In the first photographs, Alicja sits by a window in a satin robe, with her wedding dress hanging nearby. Her friend then helps her get dressed and tighten the lacing. The series includes a close-up of hands, the bride’s reflection in a mirror and a portrait of her adjusting an earring.
These images became part of the wedding album because the couple revised their original number of hours. During the ceremony or the party, it is no longer possible to repeat the moment when the dress is still on its hanger or a friend is helping finish the preparations. This part gives the story its own beginning and preserves the involvement of people who are with the bride before she leaves.
There was very little time left for the groom’s preparations, so a short sequence had to be photographed before departure. The album includes a frame of Szymon adjusting his cuff, with another man behind him. Alongside the portraits are wedding details: two rings in an open box, white roses and the bride’s handbag.
This day shows why it is useful to discuss the preparation schedule in advance. Even when the bride and groom are getting ready in the same hotel, the time available for each can differ. Planning means identifying which moments matter to each person and how much time remains before the next event.
The first look in the hotel’s reception room
After the preparations, Szymon and Alicja had their first look. The team searched for a suitable place in the hotel and chose a reception room with enough space to photograph the couple.
The images preserve their looks at one another, their smiles and the movement of the dress as Alicja turns in front of Szymon. The room, with its large windows and tables already set, became part of their wedding story before the church ceremony.
The album also includes portraits on an open terrace. The couple sit at a small table holding hands; in another frame, they face the water with their backs to the camera. Trees with green and yellow leaves are visible on the opposite bank. These photographs add space and the autumn colours of early October to the interior scenes.
A first look does not always require a separate location far from the preparations. For Szymon and Alicja, a suitable room was available in the hotel itself. The choice answered a practical need: finding enough space to photograph this part of the day.
The parents’ blessing before the ceremony
The parents’ blessing followed. In the photographs, the mother holds a small cross up to Alicja and then to Szymon. Other people stand nearby, taking part in this family moment.
This episode has its own place in a detailed account of the wedding. It preserves the parents’ involvement and a tradition the couple included in their day. Afterwards, Szymon and Alicja travelled to the church for the ceremony.
A white limousine and the church ceremony
The couple wanted a car with a more vintage appearance for their wedding and chose a white limousine. The album includes a portrait inside the car, frames beside it and photographs of the couple by the bonnet against a brick building.
There was also a small story behind the scenes: the car would not start, and the driver used a jump starter to get it running. The cause of the fault remained unknown. Even when much of a wedding day has been planned, everyday details like this can still become part of it.
The ceremony was photographed with two cameras. Those taking the pictures worked from different angles to preserve the events from several viewpoints. The published selection includes a close frame of the couple before the priest, with Alicja’s bouquet and the newlyweds’ joined hands.
Photographing a ceremony requires quick reactions. At one point, Alena hurried around the couple to find a good angle, tripped and fell. The guests gasped. She quickly got up and continued photographing. The incident also became part of the memories of the wedding, although it cannot be discovered simply by looking at the finished photographs.
Back to the hotel and the celebration with guests
After the ceremony, Szymon and Alicja returned to the hotel. Their parents welcomed them with a ceremonial wedding loaf, followed by group photographs with the guests. A meal came next, and then a long party.
The guests were very active and danced a great deal. In one frame, Alicja wears a bright flower garland and leads a line of guests, each holding the shoulders of the person ahead. In the album, this episode appears alongside the couple’s first dance and a portrait at a wooden bar.
The wedding DJ deserves a separate mention. The team particularly appreciated his work, and the lighting and smoke he used became an important part of the evening’s visual atmosphere. Yellow beams, a dark room and the illuminated word “Miłość” are clearly visible in the photographs.
Photographing the first dance in a dark room
Szymon and Alicja’s first dance became the album’s cover image. In this frame, the surroundings are dark, yellow beams pass behind the couple and smoke is visible in the air, while the newlyweds themselves remain well lit.
The room’s overhead lights were switched off. The DJ’s lighting created the atmosphere, but an additional source was needed to achieve the intended result. The team brought a powerful light with a lens attachment. It helped bring out the couple while preserving the darkness of the room, the smoke and the pattern of the beams.
This combination of the venue’s lighting and additional equipment made that first-dance image possible. The illuminated couple remained part of the evening scene: the photograph shows both the newlyweds and the celebration around them.
For most of the evening, an assistant directed the light with the lens attachment towards the guests. Its beam was narrow and directional, so it had to follow people on the dance floor. Mounting the light on a stand would not have produced this result: the guests were moving and would have left the illuminated area. The assistant helped keep the beam on the participants while Alena photographed what was happening.
Soft light spread broadly across the room would have destroyed the intended atmosphere in these conditions. The aim was to preserve a dark background, smoke and the individual beams of the DJ’s lighting. Both the chosen attachment and the person directing the source during the dancing therefore mattered.
Alena and the team pay particular attention to these conditions. They choose lights and attachments with the shoot, the room’s size and features, and the equipment already operating at the venue in mind. At this wedding, the selected source helped preserve the atmosphere created by the DJ.
What to discuss with a wedding photographer in Bydgoszcz
If you are looking for a wedding photographer in Bydgoszcz and planning an evening in a dimly lit room, it is useful to look for these particular photographs in their portfolio: first dances, guests on the dance floor and images with stage lighting. They show how the photographer works in conditions similar to those of your future celebration.
It is also worth checking that the photographer has enough equipment for difficult shooting conditions. Discuss the additional lighting they bring, how they will work with the overhead lights switched off and who can help direct a light during the dancing. At Szymon and Alicja’s wedding, the result depended on the photographer and assistant working together with the lighting.
For a full wedding day and demanding evening lighting, ideally consider two photographers or a photographer with an assistant. Clarify the division of responsibilities in advance: who takes the photographs and who can help with the light when necessary. On this shoot, the assistant’s involvement for most of the evening made it possible to direct the narrow beam towards the guests and preserve the room’s atmosphere. This way of working needs to be planned alongside the equipment and schedule.
Wedding photography until one in the morning
Work began at 13:30 and finished at around one in the morning. The team spent approximately eleven and a half hours at the wedding. During that time, the story moved from the hotel preparations to a late-night party with the guests.
After the shoot, the team considered staying overnight in Bydgoszcz and exploring the city the following day. In the end, they decided to return to Warsaw straight away. They were home at six in the morning, by then 4 October.
For Szymon and Alicja, adding hours for the preparations was an important decision: the album preserves getting ready, a friend’s help, the first look and family moments before the church ceremony. The extended evening coverage, in turn, provided photographs of the first dance and a lively celebration with the guests.
When choosing the length of wedding coverage, it helps to work through your day’s schedule and identify the events you want to see in the finished story. Then discuss the time needed for each, the journeys and the evening conditions with the photographer. Szymon and Alicja’s wedding in Bydgoszcz shows how these decisions translate into a particular album: from a dress by the window to a couple in beams of light on the dance floor.
