A model portfolio, or book, shows a model's look, type, and range of styling. From the photos, a client or agency should understand how the model looks and works in front of the camera.

The portfolio can be expanded with snapshots, model tests, beauty and fashion shoots, and published commercial work. It's best to check the required composition with the agency you plan to submit to.

Portfolio preparation usually starts with snapshots and model tests. Requirements vary between agencies, so it's worth checking the rules of your chosen agency before the shoot.

Snapshots are neutral photographs without elaborate styling or retouching: a close-up, a profile shot, and full-length shots from the front, side, and back. Clothing and required angles follow the current requirements of the specific agency.

Model tests — we use soft or hard light, colour and black-and-white shots. The goal is to show type, movement, posing, and the ability to work with different looks.

The focus stays on the model, so it's best to choose simple clothing, understated makeup, and minimal distracting details. The number of looks is agreed before the shoot.

A portfolio develops gradually. Most of the basic shots can be taken in Warsaw; whether travel is needed depends on the task and the chosen location.
